Obstetrical and gynecological services
At Cameron, our specialists are dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-focused obstetrical and gynecological care in an environment where you feel supported by our entire team. We offer a comprehensive range of services — from routine testing and exams to labor and delivery to menopause treatment and education — that allows us to treat patients of all ages and at all stages of life. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about our services or what to expect during an appointment.
Routine exams and testing
Girls should have their first gynecological visit between the ages of 13 years and 15 years and continue through advanced age. The purpose of these visits will change throughout a patient’s life and will include routine exams and testing, such as sexually transmitted infection testing, Pap smears, mammograms, reproductive health screens and/or cancer screenings.
Gynecological surgeries
Treatment for some gynecological problems, including the identification of abnormal cells, may require surgery. These surgeries may include cervical cryosurgery, dilation and curettage, and loop electrosurgical excision procedures.
Menopause education and treatment
As you transition into this stage of life, our team will provide the information and counseling you need and help treat the symptoms of menopause, including hormone changes, hot flashes, and mood swings.
Family planning and preconception counseling
Our team will be with you before, throughout, and after pregnancy. When you’re ready to start a family, our team will be there to discuss fertility concerns and the patient’s history, such as family history, medical conditions, and lifestyle, that are part of a healthy pregnancy.
Routine and high-risk pregnancy care
In addition to treating all aspects of a routine pregnancy, Cameron also monitors factors related to high-risk pregnancies, which can lead to an increased risk of health problems for you or your baby before, during, or after birth. These factors include advanced maternal age, lifestyle choices, multiple pregnancies, and pregnancy complications, such as abnormal placental position, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
Labor and delivery
Our physicians are here for their patients throughout the full life cycle of a pregnancy. We will be with you at our state-of-the-art birthing and maternity center, helping you to bring your new little one into this world.
Lactation education and counseling
Breastfeeding does not always come easily for new moms. Our team is here to answer any questions you may have about breastfeeding and to provide support to breastfeeding moms and their newborns.
Postpregnancy care
Patients should plan on visiting us for a full postpartum examination within 12 weeks of giving birth. During that visit, your physician will discuss and examine your physical and mental health, including monitoring you for postpartum depression, which many moms experience after giving birth.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is an OB-GYN, and what do they do?
A: An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, deals with female health and wellness, providing gynecological and obstetrics services to patients.
These doctors serve women of all ages and profiles, work with pregnant women — including delivering babies — and monitor the health of the female reproductive system, including the vagina, cervix, uterus and ovaries. OB-GYNs also treat STIs and monitor your breast health, including conducting mammograms, which is an important part of identifying breast cancer.
Q: What is obstetrics?
A: In general terms, obstetrics is a branch of medicine that deals with surgical and medical care leading up to and during birth and after a woman gives birth. This includes care during the following times:
- Pregnancy
- Labor
- Birth
- Postpartum
Q: What is gynecology?
A: Related to the study of obstetrics, gynecology is the branch of medicine that focuses on a woman’s body and their reproductive health. The parts of the body that are generally cared for and treated under gynecology include:
- Cervix
- Fallopian tubes
- Vagina
- Ovaries
Although some may not realize it, gynecology also deals with the testing, screening, and diagnosis of diseases related to a woman’s breasts.
Q: How often should you see an OB-GYN?
A: Women of all ages — teens to seniors — need to make regular visits to their OB-GYN a priority. Girls should have their first gynecological visit between the ages of 13 and 15 years and continue through advanced age. The focus of your appointment will change as you age and as your needs change. Around age 20 to 22, your doctor may begin to discuss family planning, including contraception options, fertility concerns, and conception counseling.
Starting at about age 45, your OB-GYN will begin to discuss menopause with you. During this time, you may begin to have an irregular or heavy period and fluctuating hormones that result in symptoms such as night sweats and hot flashes. Your doctor will discuss different methods for treating these symptoms and options for transitioning into this stage of life.
As you get older, your OB-GYN will also want to conduct bone density screens and look for signs of osteoporosis, a condition in which your bones become weak and brittle.
Q: What should you expect at your OB-GYN visit?
A: As part of your annual OB-GYN visit, your physician will review your medical and reproductive history, review your medications, and examine your reproductive health and reproductive organs. Some of the questions from our team will cover topics such as:
- Your period and any problems with it, such as missed or heavy periods
- Your sexual health and sexual activity
- Your current or past birth control methods
- Your family-planning goals
- Your vaccination history
- Your family history
The annual exam will also include a pelvic exam, which is a check of your vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus, rectum and pelvis, including your ovaries. The goal is to identify any masses, growths, or other abnormalities that may be a symptom of health problems. Depending on your age and stage of life, your doctor will also conduct a breast exam, including a mammogram, which typically begins at age 40.
Based on your age, your doctor may also conduct a Pap smear, sometimes called a Pap test, a cervical screening used to detect cancer in the cervix.
As part of your exam, you and your doctor will work together to make a plan for your continued wellness, including discussing any follow-up treatment or testing and planning for necessary lifestyle changes, based on your health needs or pregnancy goals. They can also refer you to specialists if necessary. These appointments are also an opportunity for you to ask your physician, nurse practitioner, or midwife any questions you may have about your own health or future family planning.
